Demand Driven Planner

DDP focuses on the application of the Demand Driven MRP concept (DDMRP), developed by the Demand Driven Institute. The program is designed for planning, purchasing and supply chain personnel responsible for implementing and maintaining a DDMRP implementation. The DDP Program is the official preparatory course for the Demand Driven Planner Professional (DDPP)tm Certification exam.

The DDMRP concept ensures a shorter throughput time in production and logistics processes so products can be produced in a controlled way. Naturally, this has the advantage that there is less stock, the production processes are less stressed and the delivery reliability is improved.

Demand Driven MRP is a method of inventory planning and control that builds on the currently recognized approaches from MRP, Lean, Six Sigma and Theory of Constraints. DDMRP is a ground-breaking method for stock reduction.

In the clip below you can see an explanation of Demand Driven MRP.

Intended for

Staff responsible for the stock policy or the implementation of the policy. The course is intended for:

  • Supply Chain Managers
  • Supply Chain Analysts
  • Supply Chain Engineers
  • Logistics Managers
  • Inventory Managers/Materials Managers
  • Distribution Planners
  • Process Consultants

Benefits of the training

By applying DDMRP principles, employees can contribute to improving the performance of the organization:

  • Achieve a reduction in expedite cost and more stable schedules
  • Know how to apply buffer adjustments to absorb variability
  • Able to order based information from buffer status calculations
  • Determination of strategic buffer positions
  • Determine buffer size for strategically located buffers
  • Understanding the principles of flow and how to manage inventories

Prerequisites

  • Bachelor level and some experience in managing stocks with information systems for inventory management.
  • Reading skills in English (the study material and the multiple-choice exam are in English).

Course content

In the course the traditional way of inventory planning and control MRP is questioned. It teaches you how to reduce stocks by creating buffers where they contribute most to absorbing variation and protecting the flow time (flow). The student learns methods for actively controlling the volume of buffers based on the size and variation of the demand and the lead times in production and purchasing. The participant learns how to measure the inventory performance and how this can be improved.

Classroom sessions

The course is given exclusively in class, for two consecutive days. During the lessons there is plenty of interaction and the participants are actively involved in making calculations of stocks and order quantities. The course is given in English.

Course material

The course material are as prescribed by the Demand Driven Institute (DDI) and consists of:

  • Hand-out of PowerPoint slides
  • Background information on the Demand Driven Institute website

Planning

Visie Partners offers the possibility to attend the DDP course in the Netherlands. The training course consists of 2 consecutive day classes.

Course schedule and location

The next opportunities to follow the DDP are listed below.

Investment

The costs for this two-day course is €1.395,- excluding VAT and exam.

The course material, coffee/tea and lunch are included. The exam can be taken online at a self-chosen time and location. You can find the exam prices and register form at DDI exam information.

Course duration and study effort

The study consists of two consecutive course days. The total study load is 30 to 50 hours for the entire course. The variation in study time depends on the experience and prior knowledge of the candidate.

Certification

Each participant of the DDP course receives a certificate of completion from the Demand Driven Institute. In addition, the participant can contact Demand Driven Institute after the course to plan an exam. The student has to use its own computer for the exam.

Camera surveillance is in operation during the exam. The exam is in English. After passing the exam, the student may use the title DDPP, Demand Driven Planner professional.

This program provides 16 maintenance points for an APICS CPIM, CSCP or CLTD certificate.
