Demand Driven Planner (DDP)

DDP focuses on the application of the Demand Driven MRP concept (DDMRP), developed by the Demand Driven Institute. DDMRP is a ground breaking method for inventory reduction and ROI improvement. The program is designed for planning, purchasing and supply chain personnel, responsible for implementing and maintaining a DDMRP approach. The DDP Program is the official preparatory course for the Demand Driven Planner Professional (DDPP)tm Certification exam.

The DDMRP concept ensures shorter throughput times in production and logistics processes, so that products can be produced in a controlled way. Naturally, this has the advantage that less inventory is needed, the production processes are less stressed and the delivery reliability is improved.

Demand Driven MRP is a method of inventory planning and control, that builds on the currently recognized approaches from Lean, Six Sigma and Theory of Constraints, MRP and DRP, in an innovative and systematic way.

Benefits of the training

By applying DDMRP principles, employees can contribute to significantly improving the performance of the organization, namely:

  • Realizing an inventory reduction of 30% to 45%
  • Maintaining a delivery reliability, that is structurally between 97% to 100%
  • Cost reductions for speed deliveries and deliveries between inventory points
  • Higher planner effectiveness
  • Reduction of throughput time up to 80%

Intended for

Personnel that is responsible for the policy and implementation of production planning and inventory management. The course is intended for:

  • Supply Chain Managers
  • Supply Chain Analists
  • Supply Chain Engineers
  • Logistic Managers
  • Inventory Managers / Materials Managers
  • Distribution Planners
  • Process Managers

Course content

During the course it is demonstrated that inventory and production planning with traditional MRP is no longer suitable in today’s dynamic and fast changing world. There is a strong growing variety in logistic processes, that obstruct flow. The students learn that flow can be improved by strategically positioning stock buffers in the bill of material. The goal of these buffers is to capture the variation between supply and demand and in that way contribute to the flow in the process.
The student learns to optimize the size and location of the buffers, by improving the underlying parameters. The goal is to improve flow with the optimal inventory of raw materials, semi-finished goods, end products and distribution inventories.

Classroom sessions

The course is exclusively given in a classroom setting, for two consecutive days. During the lessons there will be plenty of room for interaction and the participants are actively involved in making DDMRP calculations. The course materials are in English. There is also a Dutch version available for groups. The exam is in English.

Course materials

The course materials consist of the material as prescribed by the Demand Driven Institute (DDI), namely:

  • Hand-outs of PowerPoint slides
  • Background information on the Demand Driven Institute website
